Day 4 – Pearls of the Adriatic – We visited a winery today that we learned is much more than a place to grow grapes and make wine. It’s called Azienda Agraria Guerrieri: Five Generations Dedicated to the Land. This is a unique place situated on the lush green hills between Fano and Senigallia. With 207 hectares of land, the family Guerrieri (translated ‘warriors’) are self-described warriors of the land who produce award winning wines, olive oil and farro pasta. We spent an hour with Alberto Guerrieri who described his family’s philosophy regarding agriculture, family and life. They revere the land, treat their staff with tremendous gentility and promote a 0/2/5/30 approach to living:
Smoke 0 cigarettes;
Drink no more than 2 glasses of wine/day;
Eat a minimum of 5 vegetables/day and
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
Such a simple, yet wise philosophy. Guerrieri – warriors of the land and keepers of the traditions through five generations. A most noble family indeed and a privilege for us to share for a few hours.
