There are many reasons to travel – exploration, adventure, food. I often hear from people that travel is difficult or expensive. I want to dispel those myths. Here are 3 of my favourite travel hacking tips.
Be Flexible
This may sound like a hoax of a hack, but being flexible is the number one way to pave the road for a successful trip. The bus is late? Discover the gem of a local panini shop across the street as you wait for the next bus to arrive. Luggage is missing? Get creative with the clothes in your carry-on or go on a mini shopping spree with the insurance you so intelligently purchased before your trip. Upset stomach after trying street food? Laugh over a great story at home with friends and family, while being all the more savvy about which street vendors to avoid next time.
Layers, Layers, Layers
I’m writing this from Italy, where I was hoping to have a tan by now. Instead I’ve been layering various mix and match pieces to accommodate the relentless rain. By packing layers and using a colour scheme, 3 pieces of clothing can turn into 5 different outfits. Search capsule wardrobes and have your travel wardrobe changed forever.
Spend Smart
Many people believe that travel is only for the rich. I vehemently disagree. Over the past 6 years I have had the pleasure of living and travelling in several countries around the world. I am not a millionaire. I do know, however, a thing or two about spending intelligently. A good way to start is with awareness of your finances. Secondly, alter your daily spending habits to create a travel fund. Finally, understand which tools to use to expedite the process and pay yourself to travel. By selecting the correct credit cards and following flight trends, you can save thousands of dollars to spend in whichever destination you choose next.
Travel doesn’t have to be expensive, unattainable, or stressful. If you’re curious about how to pay yourself to travel, and other travel hacking tips, contact Tara at connect@travelwithtmc.com.
